Alice (Bunni)'s Story

Hey, thanks for visiting; Here's my story... I graduated midterm, in January 1969,and moved out and got an apartment with my older sister, Mollie, to start nursing school while I worked at a hospital in Costa Mesa and returned in June to Marina for graduating ceremonies. Later that year I met & Married my 1st husband, and bought a house in Westminster, off of Mc Fadden & Magnolia, and started a family & became the mommy of 2 beautiful sons. In 1975 we sold the home in Westminster, & bought a 5 acre parcel in the High desert, & we built a ranch home. In 1977, I fulfilled 2 of my childhood dreams~ I bought a cabin in Big Bear, and I became a published writer in poetry. In 1979, my 1st husband & I were divorced, and I moved to Redondo Beach but we had joint custody, as their dad had my oldest son,and I had the youngest boy but they were together every weekend, holiday,& every chance we could get. In 1981, I met my current husband and we married in 1985. In 1988-1990, I went back to school, and became a liscensed Massage therapy practitioner,& I went into private practice in a southbay medical center. In 1989, my oldest son, Cole, was MVP on his Varsity football team, became the Homecoming king of his highschool, graduated with honors, earned a scholarship in engineering, and moved in with us, as both boys then lived with me. In 1993, I expanded my practice and moved my office down to the strand in South Redondo Beach, where I employed 5 other therapists, in my practice. In 1994, both sons also got married. Cole (my oldest,) was married in March and Cade (my youngest,) married in December. Around 16 months later, I was told both of my son's wives were expecting. Unfortunately,we later learned that my youngest son's wife, was also diagnosed with late stage non-hodgkins lymphoma, and the pregnancy had excellerated the growth, and she lost the baby. The next summer, she passed away, too. In 1996,I returned again to school and studied veterinary tech, and equine massage therapy and worked as an equine therapist on Racehorses at all the local racetracks, while still maintaining, a full time schedule at my private practice. I was fortunate enough to work with the 1997 Kentucky derby winner, Silver Charm, who lost the tripple crown, by a head bob. If anyone ever thought those horses aren't treated well, it is not true. Those horses are the most pampered animals in the world. In one given morning, those horses are well cared for by 8-10 people, and spoiled like royalty. It was the highlight of my life... and I was written up in an article in the Daily Breeze,( a southbay newspaper,) and also featured on fox 11 news, massaging the horses at Santa Anita Racetrack. But... burning the candle at both ends...I had to slow down, as I was doing too much & became ill with pnemonia, and had to take a breather- (pardon the pun). That same summer my mother also passed away. As much as I loved it, I had to scale back. I had to move my practice to a small office, where I worked only part time. I didn't give up horses altogether, tho. Instead, I rescued and adopted a retired thoroughbred racehorse, from slaughter, and I retrained him for a second career in the hunter/jumper,cross country, show ring, where he placed many times in the 1st place spot, and I then leased him to 2 professional riders, and he was sold to one of them, where he belonged .I then went on and rescued 3 more horses, retrained and rehabilitated them, and found them new lives and homes. In 2002, my husband's father became increasingly ill, and we were asked to move down to San Clemente to look after my husbands' aging parents, after his qua...Expand for more
druple bypass, where he is doing well, today, at age 97. My youngest son, remarried in 2001. They since have had 3 sons, so I wound up with 4 grandkids. Today, I work part time doing massage/ physical therapy for private clients. Feel free to see my photos. I always wanted to be a large animal vet, when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was an expensive idea. As it turns out, they were right- I couldn't fund it, But... I did manage to get a secondary degree as a "Vet Tech" which was very handy when I worked with Racehorses, at several southern California racetracks. I don't use drugs or alcohol, so my way to get high on life is to" just being a happy person, and spread cheerfulness with everyone in my life", as I LOVE to laugh! On occasion... I have to vent, so music and especially oldies, is my thing, and it takes me back to where we all were back in highschool. I've taken up playing my flute again,as of February 2014, like I did in highschool, only better, now. My mother would be proud of my practicing habits on flute.Growing up, I thought my middle name was ",Bunni,Practice!" Now...My flute is hard to put it down sometimes... and I'm doing jazz and lots of popular stuff, too. Oh, the good ol' days- when life and music was so much simpler. I'm very nostalgic, but I don't live in the past, except for music. Depending on why I need to blow off steam; is the selection of music I choose . I love to get in my car and crank up the tunes as loud as I wish- and sing along.( A habit I acquired with my 1st car in 1969, in my 56 'Chevy! ) It was a sloppy jalopy,~but I loved it,and... just so long as the stereo worked! I'd pull into a gas station, and tell the attendant (Remember attendants?) to fill 'er up with "oil", as it used more oil than gas!) Well, anyway... Music always was a great way for me to turn my frown to a smile. I never had a convertible, and always wanted one, so I'm now driving my second Chrysler Seabring! ...Haha! I love to drive with the top down and wind in my long blonde hair and rock out! I also love to go to my shack in Big Bear, and one day we want to live up there where I can, smell the pine, fresh air, and woodlawn creatures right up in the trees, or just outside my window. Today my spirit is still 17...regardless of my cronological age. Now that I've grown up- I never want to grow down. When I can't do that I write poetry, or email friends & family to share and interact with photos and comments on facebook,( where there are several HB "remember when" sites on fb) and Ive hooked up with old classmates, again! Find me there...if you wanna connect! I love organic fruits and veggies picked fresh from my garden. I love to work, too. Being busy, accomplishing tasks, and helping my patients to feel better is a very valid and rewarding part of my life. I like to turn other peoples' frowns into smile, too. My kids and grandkids are not close by so it's hard to be involved with them, but they're always in my thoughts. One lives outside phoenix and the other one lives in Maui,Hawaii. If I won $100 million, I'd give most of it to my kids & grandkids, then spend the rest on travel, my mountain home and my best friends!. My current age is 64 going on 17! haha!. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old people! When my grandmother was 64, she wore old lady dresses grandma shoes, and a white/gray bun!. My best friend would tell you I'm outgoing and playful, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as the "Energizer Bunni"...still...full of energy!. I share my home with husband and 3 kittys, which I find comforting..
